It's baked in. AI War was designed for DRM-free co-op from day one, before it ever got near Steam. (Make your friends buy the game, though, it's cheap!)
It has always been coop.

Okay, I think I see the confusion. This is because the GoG page only says 'single player'. I can not imagine GoG removing this very core feature from the game for any reason, but I'm currently downloading the game so I can't absolutely confirm that the GoG is still coop.

Yet. I will update this post once I have confirmation one way or another.

Update The game is coop. Note that you use the same option 'Host Game' if you're playing alone or with up to seven friends, just pointing this out as it's not intuitive.

thank you for taking the time to check.
De nada. Truth be told, if I had taken the time to check the page and saw only single player listed instead of just going with my prior experience with the game, I'd be asking the exact same questions you were.
Fixed :) Check the game card :)
